The Chrononaut Club was founded in 1895 as the premier society for time traveling explorers and adventurers. Club members came from all over the globe, speaking many different languages and working in diverse fields like geology, biology, engineering, art, and mountaineering. Some had prestigious advanced degrees; others lacked any formal education. Some worked only in the lab while others favored the rigors of the field. But what they all shared was a curiosity about life on Earth and a burning drive to venture forth into the scientific mystery that is our changing planet. Their goal was to seek out and research new scientific vistas and use their hard earned knowledge of the past to inspire wonder and understanding in others so that we could better the world we live in now.
But the exploits and scientific discoveries of the Chrononaut Club were airbrushed out of history by Executive Order 7721.5 in 1937. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, fearing that time travel technology could fall into the wrong hands, issued a secret moratorium on any intertemporal travel and had all of the Chrononaut Club’s archives incinerated and their equipment smashed.

The remaining members were forced to take a death oath that they would never reveal the former existence of the club.

As far as we know, only one member, Professor Richard Hale broke that oath. On his deathbed, Professor Hale told his grandson, the noted explorer and scientists Dr. Conrad B. Hale all he knew of the chrononauts. Dr. Hale created this site because he believes his grandfather was an honorable man and telling the truth.
Help us make time travel legal and possible again by resurrecting the Chrononaut Club. The Earth’s natural history belongs to everyone. We can’t face the trials of our future—drought, disease, extinction, sea level rise—without understanding our past. Scientific time travel isn’t just our right, it’s our responsibility.
Sign the petition to end the ban on time travel now. Our future depends on it.
